Our content guideline

We will not select books with a dominant amount of heavy content. That includes graphic violence, sexual abuse, gratuitous gore, and other kinds of transgressive horror.

This isn't about the quality of the writing or whether the content has value. It's about being honest that we're a community first, and that choosing a book is an act of care for the people showing up. Not just the ones who are ready for anything, but also the ones who might not know that they aren't.

We don't always know what people in the room have lived through, or are going through. Sometimes reading about someone rising through unspeakable adversity is exactly what you need, and sometimes that same book sends you into a spiral because of a wound you were not ready to grapple with.
