Social Events

These are the experiences that are not classes or workshops. Some are structured, many are not, and all of them are built so that joining for the first time alone is normal.

Some people come for one thing and end up staying for another, which is part of why we run them all in the same building on a calendar you can see a month ahead.

First Friday · 7:30–11:00 PM Themed Social Mixer A free open evening of dancing, board games and arcade, on the first Friday. Second Friday · 7:00–10:00 PM Potluck & Karaoke Social Mixer Trivia, open karaoke and a potluck. Bring a dish and sing if you want to. Biweekly Wednesdays · 7:00 PM DFWYAS Book Club One book at a time, split across sessions so a long read is not a month of homework. Second Sunday · 3:00 PM Romance Book Club A monthly afternoon on romance novels, contemporary through to romantasy. Biweekly Sundays · 1:00 PM DFWYAS Writing Group A short chat about writing, then quiet time to write alongside other people. Second Friday · 6:00–7:00 PM Improv Games Workshop Simple improv games and group exercises, welcoming at any level of experience. Third Saturday · 9:00 AM–12:00 PM Nature Preserve Volunteering A monthly volunteer day at LLELA, doing whatever the preserve needs that month. Third Friday · 7:30 PM Board Game Night Open tables and a library of 300 games, with somebody usually willing to teach. 2nd & 4th Thursday · 7:00 PM Board Games & LAN Midweek Social Board games and networked PC games in the same room, midway through the week. 2nd & 4th Thursday · 8:30 PM East Coast Swing Dance Social A social dance night for East Coast Swing, with a short lesson to start. Every Saturday · 2:00 PM Weekly Craft Social Bring whatever you are making and work on it alongside other people. Biweekly Wednesdays · 6:00 PM Crochet Circle A regular evening for crochet, for people who have been doing it for years and people who have not. See the calendar Paper Crafts & Journal Social Journaling, scrapbooking and paper craft, with materials to share. Second Sunday · 9:00 AM Arbor Hills Walk & Talk An easy morning walk at Arbor Hills, at whatever pace the group turns up with. Fourth Sunday · 9:00 AM DFW Area Nature Hike A longer hike somewhere around the metroplex, with the trail chosen each month.

Everything here is free to attend, and donations are what keep it that way. They cover the space, the supplies and the running costs, and they let us add new free programming rather than charging for it.
