About the Style
American Tango was developed in the United States in the early 20th century from the original Argentine Tango, refined for ballroom competition and social dancing. It retains the sharp, dramatic character of the tango but incorporates a more open frame, side-by-side work, and theatrical style elements that distinguish it from its Argentine parent.
At DFW Young & Social Club, we teach American-style Tango, staccato footwork, strong posture, and the characteristic snaps and figure work that give this dance its theatrical edge. It's a dance that demands presence and precision, and rewards both.

Alexi is our lead instructor, trained in more than 25 dance styles, with Master Instructor credentials in many of them and Grand Master status in several. She has been teaching professionally since 2016 and has taught thousands of people. Whatever your level, she teaches to how you learn rather than to a syllabus, and she is at her best with people who have never danced before.
