About the Style
Jitterbug is closely related to East Coast Swing, and in many historical contexts, the two names were used interchangeably. It emerged from the swing era of the 1930s and 40s and became a defining dance of American youth culture, eventually spreading worldwide through Hollywood films and live performance tours.
At DFW Young & Social Club, we teach Jitterbug with an emphasis on the fast, energetic single-time and double-time patterns that gave it its reputation as one of the most exciting social dances of the swing era. It pairs beautifully with upbeat rockabilly, classic rock, and big band music.

Alexi is our lead instructor, trained in more than 25 dance styles, with Master Instructor credentials in many of them and Grand Master status in several. She has been teaching professionally since 2016 and has taught thousands of people. Whatever your level, she teaches to how you learn rather than to a syllabus, and she is at her best with people who have never danced before.
