About the Style
West Coast Swing evolved from the Lindy Hop in the 1940s on the West Coast of the United States. Unlike most swing dances, it's danced in a slot, a narrow rectangular pathway, which makes it ideal for smaller floors and more intimate partner connections. Today it's danced to an enormous range of music: blues, pop, contemporary, even hip-hop.
At DFW Young & Social Club, we teach WCS as a creative, improvisational dance where the leader proposes and the follower interprets. The musicality and playfulness built into this dance make it endlessly rewarding, and no two dances are ever quite the same.
West Coast Swing is one of the most versatile social dances you can learn. Once you have the basics, you can dance it to almost anything playing at a club or wedding, and you'll spend years discovering new ways to express yourself within the same fundamental framework.

Alexi is our lead instructor, trained in more than 25 dance styles, with Master Instructor credentials in many of them and Grand Master status in several. She has been teaching professionally since 2016 and has taught thousands of people. Whatever your level, she teaches to how you learn rather than to a syllabus, and she is at her best with people who have never danced before.
